I am experienced, honest and committed.
I have over fifteen years experience in the practice of law in both the private and public sectors. I worked as a sole associate in an active and diverse practice for the first three years following my graduation from law school. My practice areas included civil, criminal defense, matrimonial, family guardianship and estate proceedings.
I was offered a position as a Court Attorney for the Unified Court System in 2007 and have worked for the seven judges of Yonkers City Court for the past 12 years. I have worked in a confidential capacity behind the bench, assisting the judges during trials and hearings, researching issues, drafting over 2,000 decisions in civil, landlord-tenant, criminal, traffic, and family law. I have a successfully conducted hundreds of conferences and was recently added to a High Volume Court Subcommittee of the Unified Court System.
I am honest. I have no censures, sanctions and have never been disbarred.
I stand in solidarity with labor. I have served as Secretary, Vice President and Trustee of the Ninth Judicial System Court Employees Association (NJDCEA). Our union represents over 300 employees in the New York State Unified Court System. I have assisted members with grievances and investigations, and offered guidance and counseling. I have negotiated two contracts with the Office of Court Administration and serve as a Trustee, administering a fund which currently exceeds one million dollars. The funds are used for the welfare and benefit of our members and their families and retirees.
I am committed to my community. I live in Hawthorne with my husband Kevin (City of Yonkers DPW) and our four sons. Our children attend the Mt. Pleasant schools.
I am a member of Parish Council and a Catechist for Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Valhalla. We are members of the Town Pool and my children attend Town Camp.
Finally, as a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, I am committed to our nation. My two eldest sons are Children of the American Revolution.
I have always held an active role of service to community.
I love this Town and want to serve it. Please vote for me , Elizabeth Smith, as your next Mount Pleasant Town Justice.
